To help you receive the most benefit from your care at Liott Back and Neck Care Center, we have provided some information here for you about what to expect at your first appointment.
As Chiropractors, we see our patients as whole people rather than just a presentation of symptoms. While most of our patients come to us for the treatment of acute or chronic conditions, they find that the treatment we provide not only helps to relieve their pain, but helps put them on a path to improved health and wellness on many levels.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions prior to your appointment.
When you come to our office for your first visit, you’ll be welcomed by one of our friendly staff – usually Sue, Harriett or Jeanne.
Once you’re checked in, they will provide you with some initial paperwork for you to fill out. Your intake paperwork will provide your doctor with general information about you and your condition. If you would like to view or fill out your paperwork ahead of time, you can download and print our forms from the links below.

At this time, you will also provide us with your insurance information so that we can verify your benefits while you’re in your exam. When you check out, we will be able to inform you of your insurance coverage for chiropractic services and let you know what your financial responsibility will be for your recommended treatment. We also offer affordable pricing for cash-pay patients.
After your paperwork has been completed, the doctor will sit down with you for your initial consultation so you can explain the pain or problem you’re experiencing. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss any other related health issues or concerns that you would like to address.
After your consultation, the doctor will take down your history. One of the keys that differentiate chiropractic care from other traditional forms of medicine is its focus on identifying the underlying cause of your symptoms and treating that cause, rather than simply offering relief from the symptoms. Many factors affect your health, including your environment, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and heredity. In order to diagnose the cause your symptoms, the doctor will ask you questions, some of which may be related to these areas of your life.
The doctor will then perform a thorough examination during which he may utilize a series of specialized tests to assist in determining which tissues are affected and to what extent. Using the information from your history and exam, the doctor will evaluate and explain to you the genesis of how your condition or injury developed so he can determine the best course of action.
Based on what he finds in your exam, the doctor will determine if there is a need for additional tests, including x-rays. Not all cases require additional tests and/or x-rays. If x-rays are needed, they can be performed during your appointment, right in our office. If the nature of your condition requires a second opinion, a referral will be made at this time. Our priority is always, first and foremost, your best health! We will never proceed with or recommend to you any treatment without a thorough understanding of your condition and individual needs.
Once your exam and any additional tests or x-rays have been performed, the doctor will discuss your diagnosis and his recommended treatment options with you. Our goal is always to provide you with a safe and effective course of action that will get you well in the shortest period of time and help you maintain your wellness.
With your permission, you will generally receive your first treatment during this visit. Your treatment may include spinal adjustments or manipulation and/or an alternate therapy such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, MLS laser or a soft tissue therapy.
Before the end of your appointment, the doctor will explain and provide you with instructions for certain activities or treatments to perform at home. These recommendations are designed to help facilitate the quickest improvement and healing of your condition and provide you with the most long-term results.
Instructions may include ice or heat application, avoidance of certain activities or positions, tips for managing daily activities that contribute to your condition, and specific exercises and/or stretches.
The key to a successful recovery from injuries and maintaining optimal health and well-being is YOU!
We always stress to our patients that while your chiropractic treatments stimulate healing and correct certain physiological issues that contribute to your condition, your participation is critical to achieving the best results.
Before you leave, you will check out at the front desk. We’ll have your insurance coverage information ready to share with you and you will be able to schedule a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit.
Patients are generally seen within 1-2 days. At your followup appointment, the doctor will provide you with a complete review of findings from any tests and/or x-rays. He’ll also discuss any additional treatment options for your condition and their cost with you at this time.
